The Basque town of Guernica in Spain had a major aerial attack in the year 1937. In this, many civilians died and after the Pablo Picasso the artist started, a mural size work called the Guernica. This was a reaction for the bombing and was a way to express the tragedies in war. Spain has a national museum dedicated for this form of art of the twentieth century.
The Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofia is also known as the Queen Sofia Musuem and the Sofia, the El Reina Sofia and is a major art destination and museum. It was inaugurated in 1992 in the month of September and was named Queen Sofia. Situated in Madrid, near the Atocha metro stations, this is also known as the Golden Triangle of Art. It mainly showcases all works of Spanish art and highlights the best part of the excellent collections of the two great masters of the twentieth century Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. Picassos Guernica is the most popular and famous masterpiece in the museum. The Museo Reina Sofia collection has works of arts by artists like Miro, Juan Gris, Eduardo Chillida, Pablo Serrano, Luis Gordillo, Jose Gutierrez etc. There are many international artists in the collection and there are particular works of arts by Robert Delaunay, Jacques Lipchitz, Yves Klein, Richard Serra etc.

The main building of the museum was actually a hospital in the 18th century. With more and more renovations, there have been many additions to the building, which have made it what it is today. It has a free access library all with books, music, videos on ancient art. There are more than 100,000 books, around 3500 sound recordings and more than 1000 videos.
