The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister is also known as Old Masters Picture Gallery in simple English is located at Dresden in Germany. It showcases various important art works in the history. It is also a part of Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden which is called Dresden State Art Collections in English. Beside this gallery there are other ten additional museums which are Grünes Gewölbe, Rüstkammer and Kupferstichkabinett. The masterwork which the gallery has is top class. This masterwork has its origin from 15th to 18th century. It is one of the major reasons for the world wide popularity of the Old Masters Picture Gallery in Dresden.
One of the many attractions of the gallery is its collection of the Italian paintings of Baroque as well as Renaissance. It has a huge collection of Dutch as well as Flemish paintings. These paintings belong to the 17th century.
Number of excellent art works from the painters of Spain, German as well as France is also held in the display of Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister. The canvases and the panels of the early Renaissance are also displayed. The painting of Antonello da Messia named Saint Sebastian was recently restored and is also displayed in the gallery.
It is observed that the visitors are actually very happy with the spatial atmosphere which is provided to all 700 painting and their close by display in old golden frames. The rooms which have Italian artwork exhibited is painted in deep red colors were as the rooms that have Flemish and the Dutch paintings are displayed on the green colored walls.

The old master’s paintings are shown to the public and are kept in the Semper Gallery for display. The neo-classical style, long-stretched building is located in the center of the Dresden and near the Elbe River.
The gallery is connected to the Zwinger buildings. The gallery faces the Zwinger buildings’ courtyard in the south direction whereas it borders the Theaterplatz in the north side. The theaterplatz is also known as the Opera Place. The Gallery is surrounded by the Katholische Hofkirche (Catholic Court Church), the Residenzschloss (Dresden Castle), Semperoper (Semper Opera House) and the Schinkelwache.
The groundwork for the Gottfried Semper decorated gallery building was started in the year 1844. It is constructed in the style of any ordinary Italian Palazzi belonging to the Renaissance.
The sculptors of Ernst Julius Hahnel and the Ernst Rietschel were asked to do the required accomplishment of the decoration which had the plastic front. The southern side showcases the Christian religious themes while the antique themes were used to decorate the northern façade.
The visitors are asked to enter in the gallery by making their way through the heavy wooden door. This door has a bas-relief that depicts the Psyche and the Cupid in a round shaped arch above it.
Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister Dresden has acquired the position of being the first virtual museum that belonged to the second life. The achievement of the museum was been declared in May 2007.
Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden commonly known as Dresden State Art Collections together with a Berlin-based company named Second Interest AG – Virtual Business Solutions are planning to launch this project of the virtual museum. It would give the museum a very realistic look. According to this development the visitors would get all the required information regarding the painting by just clicking on the painting.
