The Lanikai Beach in one of the many pretty beaches of the Hawaii and like all of them is simply spectacular and with no public facility developed on the beach, is all the more charming place to visit. The pure crystal clear water brings tourists here who are keen on snorkeling. Lovers of other water sports like surfing, kayaking, paddling etc need not be disappointed as the sea here is fit for everything. Not far away are places that make for good excursions and hence giving you diversions that make you want to come back to the beach again for relaxations and some rest.

Location

The Lanikai Beach is among the most popular beaches of the beaches in the Hawaii. In the Hawaiian language, Lanikai means “heavenly sea” and the Lanikai Beach definitely stands up to the meaning of its name.

Stretching over half a mile, the Lanikai Beach is located in Lanikai, a suburb of Kailua on the windward coast of Oahu in Honolulu. It is regarded as one of the best beaches in the world.

When to go

Hawaii, because of its location in the tropics and being surrounded by the Ocean, has a climate that’s more or less consistent throughout the year and hence apt for tourism. Of course, having a number of islands with diverse topography leaves the islands in the Hawaii with their own micro climate.

Oahu Island where the Lanikai Beach is and the Maui Island are in the interior of the Island, towards the lowlands. They fall under both the leeward and windward lowlands. Oahu along with the other central areas experience intense local showers during the afternoon as the land gets heated up during the day.

Hawaii has a combination of coastal and mountainous terrain that gives it diverse climate.

How to reach

Honolulu has an International Airport at Oahu which is served by major airlines from all over the world like the American Airlines, China Airlines, Air Canada, and Air New Zealand. Air Pacific, Continental, Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Air, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Northwest Airlines, Philippines Airlines and Qantas among others.

It is fairly easy to access the Lanikai Beach, though you will need to make arrangements for your own transport as the there aren’t any bus service here.

What to do at Lanikai Beach

Sandy beaches along the crystal clear water of the Lanikai Beach attract the locals as well as the tourists alike. The beach has no public facilities such as restrooms, showers or water fountain and is pretty much in its natural form, untouched by the commercial world. This is what makes Lanikai Beach exotic in its own way.

If you are seeking a vacation by the beach that is a stress buster in true sense of the term, Lanikai beach is one of your places among many such beaches of Hawaii. Whether you want to sunbathe and relax by the beach, or you want to enjoy the waves by swimming or snorkeling through its clear water, the Lanikai beach is a perfect location to spend a warm sunny day at.

However, since there are no public facilities here, you will have come here with your swimming and snorkeling gear ready.

While the beach is more or less quiet, but there are occasions for surfing in the sea here as well. Whether quiet or noisy, the Lanikai Beach always has a scenic beauty that you can sit and relish.

The clear turquoise water with protective offshore reef gives it an apt condition for snorkeling. Other water sports that you can indulge in on the sea at the Lanikai Beach include kayaking, outrigger canoeing, sailing, surfing and windsurfing.

For an excursion, you can make a trip to the twin Mokulua Islands that is at some distance from the Lanikai beach and adds to its panoramic beauty. You can do that on a kayak or paddle your way to the pair of Mokulala Island.

You could also spot the Green Sea Turtles, which are particular to the Hawaiian Islands as well as spot the vibrant birds at the beach of Lanikai. After a full moon, you can also spot the box jellyfish on the Oahu coastlines.

When you are here, you certainly can’t afford to miss the sunrise and the sunset at the beach.

There are quiet a few diversions in proximity to the Lanikai Beach that you might want to visit, just as a short break from the beach. At about 0.1 miles from the centre of the beach is the Iolani Palace at St King Street. The forty five minute tour here is just worth it if you want to get a deeper insight of the Hawaii.

Honolulu Academy of ArtsThe well known museum, the Honolulu Academy of Arts at Ala Moana Beach Park too is in proximity to the center of the destination. It unveiled its new $28 million Henry R. Luce Pavilion Complex in May in the year 2001.

Another museum here in Honolulu, approximately 2 miles away from the center of destination is the Bishop Museum, worth a visit.

You might not want to miss out Nuuanu Pali Lookout that is a 1, 186 foot high perch at a distance of about 3 miles from the destination center.

Among the historical site here is the Lyon Arboretum, approximately 4 miles away from the center of destination, which dates back to 1918.

At about nine miles from the center of destination is the Byodo-in Temple in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. Another attraction here is the Sunset Beach Park in Haleiwa in Hawaii, about 28 miles from the center of destination.

The beach of Lanikai at Oahu is a perfect holiday destination for you if what you are looking for is a quiet outing with your friends and family. The place is great if you are traveling alone too, and if you are up for walking around the suburb of Kailua as well as ready for excursions at other places in the Hawaii.

When here, all you need to do is enjoy the scenic beauty around in the cool trade winds and have a nice time.
